What to Do During a Power Cut in Bali (A Calm & Simple Guide for Our Guests)

If you’re visiting Bali, you may experience the occasional power cut. It’s part of island life — usually brief, sometimes unexpected, but rarely something to worry about.

Here’s exactly what to do (and how to make the most of it) if the lights go out during your stay.

Stay calm — it’s normal

Power outages in Bali are typically caused by maintenance, weather, or high demand. Most are resolved within a few hours.

If everything suddenly switches off, take a breath — you’re not alone, and it’s usually temporary.

    2. Check if it’s just your villa

      Before assuming it’s widespread:

      • Look outside — are nearby villas or street lights also off?
      • If yes, it’s likely a local outage
      • If not, message your villa management company so they can assist immediately

Don’t wait in the dark — head out

        Here’s the best insider move:

Many restaurants, cafés, and beach clubs in Bali have backup generators, meaning they stay fully operational even during outages.

👉 Instead of waiting it out, take it as the perfect excuse to:

        • Go for dinner
        • Grab a drink
        • Watch the sunset
        • Enjoy somewhere with lights, music, and great energy

Most outages are resolved within 1–3 hours, so by the time you’re back, everything is usually up and running again.

        3. We’ve got you covered with lighting

Each of our villas is equipped with a guest comfort kit = torch, matches and candle, typically located under the kitchen sink.

So if the power goes out at night, you’ll be able to safely and easily move around and have a candle light dinner.

          1. Keep things simple before you leave
              • Keep fridge/freezer doors closed
              • Bring your essentials (phone, key, wallet)
              • Switch to mobile data if WiFi drops
              2. Stay cool and comfortable

If you choose to stay in:

                • Open windows for airflow (if comfortable)
                • Use your torch or phone light
                • Take it slow — Bali has its own rhythm
                3. When to contact us

We’re always here to help. Reach out if:

                  • The outage lasts longer than expected
                  • It seems isolated to your villa
                  • You’d like recommendations on where to go

We’re happy to guide you to nearby spots with full backup power.
